Hogan’s research examines issues and initiatives related to diversity, 股本, 和包容 in post-WWII medicine and other clinical professions. He draws on professional newsletters and magazines, 档案来源, and oral history interviews with clinicians and activists to explore the evolving ways in which clinical fields have described and conceptualized race, 种族, and disability among their students, 从业人员, 和病人. Amidst recent efforts by professions to increase their diversity, little attention has been given to the strategies, 成就, 障碍, and shortcomings of past efforts to improve minority recruitment, 保留, 和包容. Hogan analyzes the ways in which clinical fields’ perceptions and assessments of competence and capability, 还有形形色色的偏见, 歧视, 本质主义, and narrowly scientific ways of knowing, have been used and tolerated as modes of excluding racial/ethnic minorities and disabled people from careers in medicine and other health-related professions.
